Canadian Tax Services

It is a common goal of taxpayers to want to maximize their after-tax income, while minimizing their tax liability. Our team of experienced tax advisors can be invaluable in helping both individual and corporate clients successfully interpret the complexities of the Income Tax Act to achieve these goals.

Tax Strategies
We can provide clients with customized tax strategies, interpreting the Income Tax Act and assisting in their dealings with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. MDS Chartered Accountants has state of the art electronic research services to assist in quickly and efficiently obtaining income tax information with which to formulate personal and corporate tax strategies.

Tax Appeals
Clients are provided with a variety of services for Canada Customs and Revenue Agency tax appeals. These services include preparation of case research and position papers, notice of objection filing, and pre-trial negotiations. Appeals often centre around negotiating penalty and interest charges on overdue taxes, assessment amendments and demands to provide certain tax information, which can involve substantial communications between the Minister and appellant (taxpayer). In many instances, where cases are required to go to trial, legal representation can also be secured for the client.

International Tax Services

American Tax Services
A variety of U.S. tax services are available to clients, including preparation of Federal and State personal income tax returns. Our services also include electronic research and interpretation of a number of complex issues affecting U.S. taxation, including treaties, regulations, and legislation specific to jurisdictions in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Offshore Tax Services
Offshore trust investments, which constitute a legal structure for holding assets, and feature international characteristics, are becoming increasingly popular. They are used in a variety of circumstances, such as when an individual spends part of the year in several countries, purchases property, or invests outside their country of residence. Offshore trusts are sometimes established by families prior to emigration to (or immigration from ) another country or in circumstances where individuals feel assets need to be protected from economic or political unrest in their home country.

Offshore trust services are offered to clients who require assistance in areas such as foreign information gathering and reporting, interpretation of various international income tax treaties, interpretation of foreign tax credit and foreign affiliate issues, and financial planning.
